Fasting Rituals for Janmashtami 2025

Fasting on Krishna Janmashtami is considered highly auspicious, as it symbolizes purity, devotion, and surrender to Lord Krishna. There are generally two types of fasts observed:

1. Nirjala Fast (Without Water)

Some devotees observe a strict fast without consuming food or water until midnight puja. This is considered the most devoted form of fasting.

Steps of Puja Vidhi:

  1. Prepare the Puja Ghar (altar): Decorate with flowers, lights, and peacock feathers.
  2. Place Bal Gopal (idol of baby Krishna) in a cradle decorated beautifully.
  3. Offer Panchamrit: A mixture of milk, curd, ghee, honey, and sugar for Krishna Abhishekam.
  4. Sing Bhajans & Aarti: Recite Krishna Chalisa, sing bhajans, and perform aarti at midnight.
  5. Swing the cradle (Jhulan): Symbolizing Krishna’s birth, devotees swing the cradle with devotion.
  6. Distribute Prasad: Panchamrit, makhan-mishri, and sweets like panjiri are offered to devotees.
